With JJK and Frieren's seasons finished, these are the anime I'm watching. I'd like to add Steel Ball Run to the list, but Netflix has only shown one episode — for reasons I'll go into in another post. Anyway, here are the anime I'm currently watching.

Witch Hat Atelier

This is one of the best anime I've seen. I've got the book and the art is incredible — the anime looks amazing too. It's a lot better than Harry Potter and has one of the best magic systems, with a rich, literal art of magic and some of the best fantasy world-building I've seen, rivalling A Song of Ice and Fire. It explores gatekeeping and different types of learning, and shows you can make a cartoon about neurodiversity that actually works.

Mob Psycho 100

The other anime I'm watching, by the creator of One Punch Man. A lot of people would write off Mob Psycho as a badly drawn One Punch Man with a similar character, but it's actually a lot better — and probably the best cartoon about neurodiversity, certainly better than The Owl House.

The main character, Mob, is autistic and has an internal lock on his emotions to prevent emotional overwhelm and stop his psychic powers from spiralling out of control. Many fans draw a parallel between this and "autistic masking," where neurodivergent individuals consciously suppress their natural responses to fit into a neurotypical world. Unlike other shows about autistic characters — like Young Sheldon, which focuses more on how others react to them — Mob's autism is seen as neither a gift nor a hindrance. The message is self-acceptance: that he's no different from anyone else.

Vinland Saga

Believe it or not, I'd never seen Vinland Saga before. It's the best Viking story I've seen and became required viewing after episode 4. This spoiler-heavy video explains why it contains the greatest scene in anime:

Gachiakuta

Lastly, I'm watching Gachiakuta — a great dark science fantasy. This show proves anime is about the future, not just the past, and that the 2020s can still produce anime worth watching.

Marriage Toxin

One of the more adult anime on this list, Marriage Toxin is a hidden gem. This story about an assassin searching for a partner is genuinely funny — well worth checking out if you're after something a bit different.
